The curriculum of Korea military academies is composed of the academic courses, the military science courses, and the disciplines. The educational purpose of Armed Forces Nursing Academy is to educate professional nursing officers. Since the courses of field nursing was introduced, they have been changed to improve the education. Especially in case of the course of mass casualties management under chemical-biological warfare, it has been changed over several times according to the influence of social need. But the result has not been satisfactory. From our point of view, such reasons are as follows; First, the concept of the course was not properly defined. The goal and contents of the course were not specified the characteristics of military nursing. Second, among the vital factors in the curriculum development, only the disciplinary factor was taken consideration. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop the course of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare which could effectively attain the educational objectives and have characteristics to the education in Armed Forces Nursing Academy. This study is based on the research of the relevant references, the data produced by course review on chemical-biological warfare training, and the interview of professors related to chemical-biological warfare training. The procedure of curriculum development to accomplish this study is as follows; First, as the source of curriculum development, the objectives of the course of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare were defined. Second, the subject matters were analyzed. Third, the contents of the course were selected. Forth, the method for the effective instruction was organized. Finally, the criteria to evaluate curriculum were established. The curriculum objectives of the course of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare were to have ability understand medical effects of chemical-biological agents, understand management process of mass casualties, understand the roles of military hospitals under the chemical-biological warfare, and adapt nursing process for patients injured by chemical-biological attacks. The proper time for the course of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare should be after 5 semester. And we need to discuss if military semester is fit. 16 hours were recommended to cover the contents of this course. The curriculum contents of the course of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare would include medical effect of chemical-biological agents, management process of mass casualties, missions and roles of military hospital and adaptation nursing process for patients injured by chemical-biological agents The methods for the effective instruction can be selected according to the contents. And various methods can be used for more effective education. The criteria to evaluate curriculum should include the main contents of course. This curriculum development of the patient nursing care under the chemical-biological warfare will help cadets have ability to take care of the patient injured by chemical-biological attacks efficiently. Futhermore this curriculum can be the unique part of the patient care in military nursing curriculums.
